Case file No. 01

A deduction game · 16+

Somebody was alone with the victim. Find out who.

Every case is a floor plan, a handful of suspects and their statements. Cross out what can’t be true, place everyone where only they can stand – and the killer has nowhere left to hide.

The method

Three tools. One solution.

The rules fit on an index card. The cases do not.

Everyone stood on one square. Inside a room, no two people share a row or a column.

  1. 01

    Read the statements

“Benjamin was beside a bush.” “Agatha was in the Basement.” Each suspect gives you one fact.

  2. 02

    Cross out the impossible

Strike every square a statement rules out. Make notes when you are not sure yet.

  3. 03

    Name the killer

When everyone is placed, one person was alone in a room with the victim. That is your killer.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is Alibi Files free?

Yes. Case file 1 with 30 cases and the daily case are free forever, with 3 hints a day. Case files 2–4 are optional one-time purchases – there are no ads and no subscription.

Can every case really be solved without guessing?

Yes. Every case has exactly one solution, and our solver checks that it can be reached step by step from the statements alone. If you are stuck, a hint shows the next deduction.

Do I need an internet connection?

No. All cases are on your device and play offline. The internet is only used for purchases and, unless you switch them off, anonymous statistics and crash reports.

Is it violent?

No. A crime has happened, but you never see it: the game is a logic puzzle on a floor plan, with illustrated portraits and short written statements. It is made for players aged 16 and over.
